What’s the Role?

As part of Loggerhead’s Underwriting team, the Underwriter is responsible for ensuring risks meet Loggerhead’s underwriting standards, analyzing opportunities to increase Loggerhead’s risk appetite, and quickly identifying policy trends requiring increased scrutiny to protect Loggerhead’s balance sheet. This colleague is expected to become a subject matter expert in underwriting and on Loggerhead’s products.

A Day in the Life could include:

• Review and analyze underwriting rules and guidelines that drive profitable growth
• Review risk referrals and determine whether risk meets Loggerhead’s underwriting requirements
• Utilize various underwriting tools including inspection reports, loss histories, and predictive scores to determine risk acceptability
• Answer phone calls and voicemails from agents
• Review existing policies to make renewal / non-renewal decisions
• Understand vendor integrations with the underwriting process
• Advanced understanding of how underwriting criteria interact with product, pricing, and agent facing systems
• When necessary, apply expert judgment in determining whether potential risks meet underwriting guidelines or are otherwise acceptable risks within the bounds of our underwriting and product acceptance criteria
• Opine on how product proposals (rate or form) interact with underwriting and systems requirements and capabilities
• Become thoroughly familiar with the use of all agency management software systems

Knowledge & Experience

• Demonstrable experience performing each key responsibility satisfactorily
• Knowledge of property insurance technology covering at least one of the following functions: Policy administration, claims, billing, producer / agency management
• Advanced knowledge in underwriting software, policy administrative systems, and MS Office products

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Marketing, Statistics, Finance or Risk Management and/or equivalent experience.
• Risk management, underwriting, or other insurance designations are desirable

Working Conditions

• Remote work environment with occasional time spent at the Tampa Corporate Headquarters for training and corporate / departmental meetings
• May be required to work flexible hours and/or weekends

Travel: May be required to travel to other domestic locations (primarily in Florida) up to 10% of the time.
