Mid-Senior Nodal Power Market Analyst – Renewables and Battery Storage

Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development and execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 7GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase which includes the addition of a Mid-Senior Nodal Power Market Analyst.

This is highly technical role that will provide transmission zonal and nodal modeling to support the strategic analysis of utility-scale renewable energy projects across all ISO / RTO markets in the United States. The role will be part of a creative team focused on energy storage / battery storage trading strategies and real-time energy pricing. The incumbent will also help pioneer the build-out and utilization of a proprietary battery storage / energy storage management platform for utility-scale renewable projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – models and analyze renewable industry patterns in AURORA, PLEXOS, PROMOD, GRIDVIEW, or UPLAN to predict short/long term electricity prices and drive greenfield renewables project development siting initiatives

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – performs optimization modeling to forecast congestion, assess congestion drivers, and assist in locational marginal pricing (LMP) assessments

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – zonal & nodal analysis to enhance the company’s market platform

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – selects trading nodes based on market congestion patterns & bid curve analysis

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – facilitates transmission topology comparisons and updates

• The Mid-Sr Power Market Analyst / Nodal Transmission Energy Analyst – data visualization in PowerBI and queries in SQL to streamline processes

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-5+ Years utility-scale renewables or transmission market experience with recent work as a Power Market Analyst, Nodal Analyst, Transmission Associate, Economic Studies Engineer, Economic Planning Engineer, Energy Analyst or similar position

• AURORA power market modelling experience is ideal but similar programs like PROMOD, PLEXOS, GridView, and UPLAN will also be considered

• Hands-on experience or solid understanding of transmission topology
• Must have experience with various types of analysis – capacity prices, regional energy pricing, congestion and curtailment analysis, transmission constraints, interconnection assessments, LMPs, and/or regional supply and demand curves

• Data Visualization experience in tools like PowerBI are HUGE PLUS

• Must have an understanding of national energy markets and renewable energy portfolios (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO)

• Experience and strong automation skills in Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, MATLAB
