General Store Manager

Position Description is currently seeking a General Store Manager for the Wright State Campus Store located at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. Wright State University, a Carnegie-classified research university, serves over 11,000 students across two campus locations. is a leading bookstore management company for over 300 academic institutions and is the managing partner for campus store retail operations on the university’s campus. The General Store Manager will offer superior customer service and will support all store management and operations.


This position encompasses responsibilities related to retail sales, communication, operations, human resources, merchandising and exceptional customer service. Detailed responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership and Staff Development

  • Motivate and communicate with the retail staff
  • Display a passion for the brand and set stage for daily operations
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Develop and coach a team that provides a superior customer experience
  • Ensure that all team members adhere to all employment policies
  • Recruit student staff members and create schedule
  • Conduct performance evaluations and annual reviews
  • Create a fun and exciting atmosphere for employees focusing on staff retention

Merchandise Management

  • Manage the efficient process of merchandise receipt, processing, placement and replenishment.
  • Maintain high standards of a clean and neat sales floor, cash wrap, and fitting rooms
  • Coordinate store sets and assist with promotional event planning
  • Setup and conduct successful package pickup location

Operations and Performance

  • Assist in the daily operation of the store in partnership with the Assistant Store Managers, staff and the management team
  • Maintain a consistent presence on the sales floor
  • Ability to open and close the store, handle transactions, and follow daily standard operational procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate, setup and operate athletic venue and special events.
  • Ensure online orders are filled and processed in a timely manner following company standards
  • Update and obtain accurate inventory reporting
  • Strive to achieve daily, monthly, and annual sales goals
  • Sustain adequate payroll expense and review P&L statements
  • Maintain operational standards to secure the store’s assets
  • Develop a working knowledge of collegiate sports and university activities
  • Achieve customer retention and assist with customer loyalty goals
  • Perform related duties as requested

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 1 year retail management experience required
  • Ability to work a schedule based upon the business needs – including some nights, Saturdays and special events
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Capability to work well within a team and in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Full-time, normal office and retail environment
  • Sitting, standing, bending and lifting
  • Operation of standard business equipment
  • Follow proper safety standards
