Job Description :

The Career Center supports the goals of MSU-Northern by providing a comprehensive network of employment services for students and employers. The top priority of the Career Center is to help students learn about the world of work and find a successful place in it. The professional staff is involved daily with contacts in business, industry, and education in order to maintain MSU-Northern’s visibility and market Northern students and graduates.

This position requires the employee to work well independently with minimal guidance. The position requires attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize projects and tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Director with various services offered by the Career Center, such as office management, employer recruiting, Career Fairs, on and off-campus employment, Co-op Internships, stats/graphs, yearly Graduate Survey, Career Center website, etc.

Manages the Career Express website, which includes monitoring activity, approving employer/contact profiles and positions, co-op internships, student profiles, Career Fairs, and on-campus recruiting. Assist students, employers, and faculty using the website and answer questions. Communicate new jobs with pertinent faculty, to help get the word out to students and alumni.

Coordinates employer on-campus recruiting visits, info sessions, and interview schedules. Reserves campus locations, order food, sends invites for employer lunches and communicates information to students.

Coordinates all aspects of the bi-annual Career Fairs. Manages registration, processes payments through Business Services, coordinates interview schedules, and orders food. Coordinates with other campus departments involved in Career Fair, including Facilities, Campus Catering and University Relations.

Coordinates all on-campus and Co-op internship job placements for students. Acts as lead liaison between employers, students, and faculty. Uses knowledge and understanding of industry trends and needs, to assist employers and faculty to develop Co-op learning objectives. Coordinates approval and registration processes. Monitors student progress on Co-ops and communicates important deadlines throughout the semester, including Mid-Term Report, Evaluations, and timesheets. Manages co-op internship records and prepares reports on historical information for Director.

Assist students and graduates with resumes, cover letters, job searches. Serves faculty, staff, alumni, and community members with services provided by the Career Center.

Serves on pertinent University committees.

Other duties as assigned as they support the mission of Career Center and MSUN.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Increasingly responsible knowledge in the area of career services, employment, communication, human resources, or business
  • Or, associate degree or equivalent higher education in human resources, business, communication or another relevant field.

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:

  • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
