DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Job Description
REPORTS TO: CFO
STATUS: This is a full-time exempt position.
SUMMARY: The Director of Finance is responsible for the integrity of the financial information system and related functions of the corporation under generally accepted accounting principles. Financial management activities include accounting, financial planning, reporting and analysis, internal auditing, insurance, taxes, and fixed assets. Also included are such other related financial matters as they may be necessary to provide for the integrity of the corporate financial systems, assurance of accurate reporting and proper disclosure about regulatory standards, as well as meeting of company goals and objectives as defined by the Management.
STAFF: 8-10 Full Time Accountants
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for safeguarding company assets by maintaining effective systems for management of fixed assets, accounts receivable, inventory, credit and other accounting systems.
Under the supervision of the CFO, set accounting policies and methods and formulate and maintain an internal accounting control systemto conform with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Interpret changes and apply them to policy as necessary.
Establish a working relationship with auditors reviewing the work of the accounting department.
Assist the accounting personnel in their day-to-day activities so as to enhance efficiencies, morale and productivity.
Coordinate and manage all field office accounting functions, which include functions relating to G/L, A/R, A/P, I/C, P/R. Retail and other accounting related duties. Coordinate with field office or plant managers to assure proper procedures are being followed in day-to-day office operations.
Coordinate and prepare monthly financial statements, which shall include monthly balance sheet, income statement, bulk sales reports w/margins, cash flow statements and other financial reports.
Monitor and assist cost accounting for annual capital budget, especially construction projects, and report progress to Senior Management on a monthly basis.
Monitor and develop cash management systems and functions to assure procedures pertaining to cash management systems are efficient and sound.
Responsible for training programs for accounting staff in the corporate office and in the field concerning accounting policies and procedures including utilization of software programs.
Work on special projects and perform other duties as assigned relating to finance functions as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Requires exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to train and direct others.
Must have excellent communication skills and be effective in oral and written communication.
Experience in preparing and conducting internal audits.
The ability to work independently with minimal oversight to complete assigned duties by target deadlines.
Requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors’ degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
Minimum of 4-6 years related experience in an accounting or finance environment, prefer audit/process evaluation experience. CPA or CMA is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical regulatory compliance documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or regulatory agencies. Ability to write and effectively communicate utilizing e-mail. Ability to communicate effectively with all employees and facilitate problem resolutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Individual may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to move hardware. Proper lifting techniques required. Must be able to occasionally lift 25 lbs.
Must be willing to work on location at various locations throughout southcentral and southeast Alaska multiple times a year for upwards of 2-4 days per visit.
Daily continued use of computer for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
For the most part, exposure is ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
