The Defense Critical Language and Culture Program (DCLCP) invites applications for an Assistant Manager Learning Technician/Language Instructor to join their team. This position is responsible for assisting the Manager of Academic Programs (MAP) and faculty and staff regarding language, regional expertise, and culture (LREC) learning technology for the Defense Critical Language and Culture Program (DCLCP). The position requires an important level of autonomy in developing and advising on learning technology in support of DCLCP academic programs and in managing all learning technology support. The position should also have experience with language learning and teaching and be able to teach one critical language offered by DCLCP (Arabic, Persian Farsi, Chinese Mandarin, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, Tagalog, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese). The position requires a high level of attention to detail, initiative, complex problem-solving, maturity, and adaptability to complex and changing situations.

Responsibilities of this position include:

• Develop and manage language learning technology in support of DCLCP faculty teaching language, regional expertise, and culture (LREC) in over 14 languages
• Develop and manage the resources of the new DCLCP state-of-the art Language Resource Center to provide cutting-edge technological support for LREC learning
• Advise and support faculty regarding LREC learning technology to maximize the use of technological pedagogical resources in their curriculum and classrooms for both resident and non-resident courses
• Ability to teach one critical language offered by DCLCP (Arabic, Persian Farsi, Chinese Mandarin, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, Tagalog, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese)
• Seek out and maintain expertise in new LREC learning technologies that can be used to enhance DCLCP academic programs
• In conjunction with the DCLCP Computer Support Specialist, advise DCLCP management about maintenance and improvement of its technological resources for optimal LREC learning
• Serve as the primary liaison between DoD customers, the University of Montana, and the DCLCP staff on development of LREC learning technology
• In collaboration with the DCLCP Manager of Academic Programs and Assistant Academic Manager, create documents, videos, and other tools that advise and support faculty and staff in using LREC technology resources
• Assist instructors with designing teaching materials and curriculum using LREC learning technology
• Schedule and host meetings for military partners and faculty upon request
• Be flexible and willing to learn how to complete assigned projects and provide back-up to the DCLCP Academic Manager
• Propose solutions and take initiative to solve complex problems related to LREC learning and DCLCP academic programs

Due to multiple training sites, some travel may be required. The position is located in Missoula, Montana.

Position Details

• Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment, and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
• Salary for this position is $64,500 commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an education, language/linguistics, or related field
• Experience with language learning and teaching
• Education and experience in LREC learning technologies, instructional design, or related field
• Demonstrated experience with language pedagogy and curriculum design
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize, organize, meet deadlines in a complex environment and to ensure exceptional attention to detail, including managing others to whom tasks have been delegated
• Must be able to work productively within a large and culturally-diverse team, establish a strong professional working relationship with subordinates
• Ability to manage work autonomously, multi-task, and meet fast evolving deadlines with a curiosity and passion for building rich, learning experiences
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse populations, including with military and government partners, other MUS departments, administrators, faculty, staff, and students
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems in a complex and rapidly-changing environment
• Ensure proper treatment of confidential and sensitive information
• Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, grammar, composition, proofreading and ability to edit materials
• Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software, as well as the ability to update web content (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) with the ability to learn new software
• Must have a valid work authorization for the U.S.
• Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Investigation

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters-level degree
• Ability to teach one critical language offered by DCLCP (Arabic, Persian Farsi, Chinese Mandarin, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, Tagalog, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese)
