Assistant Editor job vacancy in Science History Institute – Jobs in Pennsylvania

The Science History Institute is seeking a full-time Assistant Editor to write for Distillations magazine and lead the magazine’s online production. The Assistant Editor will produce articles that challenge the public’s understanding of science and reveal science’s role in shaping history and current events. These features and essays will be created both independently and in collaboration with in-house experts and visiting scholars. The Assistant Editor will be responsible for researching and editing imagery used in magazine articles and for publishing stories on the Science History Institute’s website. This position reports to the Editorial Director. Remote candidates are welcome.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum of five years of professional writing and editing experience
• Demonstrated record of excellent story generation and feature writing for magazines or similar publications
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining rigorous attention to detail
• Image researching and editing experience
• Ability to navigate academic environments and subject matter while maintaining a proactive, generous approach to collaborating with colleagues
• Interest in the history of science and previous experience working with scientific material, archives, and primary sources
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and content management systems (Drupal, WordPress) and experience using project management applications (Slack, Asana) and image editing software (Adobe Photoshop)
